Cloris Leachman was a concert-level pianist -- who knew? This is why I love reading biographies
and autobiographies; finding out all the unfamiliar details about a familiar person's life.
Certainly I knew she could sing. Didn't I have a program from the original Broadway production of
South Pacific with a cast change slip inside saying the part of Nellie would be played at
that performance by Cloris Leachman? I wonder how many outraged audience members insisted on a
refund or an exchange of tickets rather than see this fresh-from-the-chorus girl play the lead,
never guessing hers would be a name to be topping titles someday?
She was at the Actor's Studio and there is a lot about Marlon Brando, but I'm not going to give away
any more details. You'll have to read the entire book yourself to find them because, once again, my
biggest nightmare has come true --- NO INDEX! (Shame on you, George Englund!)
