Costume Through the Ages

James Laver / 1963

publisher: Simon & Schuster (Touchstone Book)

This is an old, much reprinted book.
My copy was is a 1963 edition (bought used) but there have been editions as late as 1999.
It's easy to understand why. With all my books on costume, I'll still always grab this one as
a back-up. It's small and all drawings... year by year. No fancy explanations, just illustration.

Any costume designer worth her Singer knows the explanation,

she just wants a quick look at exactly HOW FAR that bustle shrank between 1883 and 1888.
