Eighty Is Not Enough
Dick Van Patten and Robert Baer / 2009
Phoenix / 1607477009
If you think of Dick Van Patten only as a 1970's tv sit-com star, prepare to have
your socks knocked off. This performer, as man and boy, worked with the greatest;
Lunt and Fontanne, Josh Logan... would you believe he beat out Marlon Brando for a
part? The list goes on and on, from legit Broadway stage, vaudeville, radio, movies,
until a funny fad called television suddenly takes over the entertainment field. His
life spanned a remarkable age of American performing arts, yet somehow he manages to
tell the story gently, with the most joy and holding the fewest grudges of anyone I've read.
