Voice of the City:
Vaudeville and Popular Culture in New York
Robert W. Snyder / 2000
Ivan R. Dee /ISBN 1566632986
I enjoyed this book and plan to steal (ahm.. "borrow and give credit") as much from it.
It's a great little history of general vaudeville, its politics and venues, with lots of
references to individual performers. It's a wonderful starting book for someone just
beginning to study theatre or someone branching out into the ethnic backgrounds of
New York theatre in the 19th century.
It was a truly exciting time as "variety" stage became "Vaudeville."
