Since I can find no evidence at this time on the career of "Esther Murphy, A Sacramento Girl," I'm assuming
she was a local girl being given a chance at the "big time" by opening the show, a spot usually taken by a
"dumb" act (silent, non-speaking proformers, such as jugglers and acrobats) which would fill in the first few
minutes of a show while late-comers were being seated.
